Our Croc Adventure....

Nope...this picture isn't from a nature magazine, it is from our daughter-in-laws camera. We went up front and super close as we had our very own croc adventure. We have seen them here before but not quite like this!Royce, Susan, and their gang had planned to go out on a fishing/dolphin tour in the ocean but it got canceled due to rainy weather. They settled for something MUCH less exciting, like crocodiles. Ha! We drove over to a bridge that we knew about, near Playa Carrillo, where there supposedly are crocodiles. We found a couple locals who told us that there was an easy way to get them to come to the surface of the water....rope and chicken. The next thing we knew, Royce was tossing a rope that had chicken tied to it over the bridge. At one point, they threw the rope over a tree branch and lowered and raised the chicken like a pinata for crocs. Needless to say, it worked perfectly!

There were two crocs and they would sneak up and glance at the dangling chicken. Royce kept teasing them until they would come out of the water and snap.

It was interesting to see and the kids LOVED it! Royce tugged on the rope so much that it actually snapped at one point because the croc was so strong. He told us that he has had a couple nightmares since where he has imagined falling over the bridge. I am sure that none of them will forget that experience for a long time.

  1. That is crazy! I totally know where that bridge is but I never saw the crocs when I was there. I guess it was because we never stopped and we didnt have CHICKEN with us....ha! I am sure that was a wild, yet exciting adventure.

  2. oh yes, that was one hair raising experience! Actually very interesting and it all grew quite a crowd.

  3. did you hold yourself back from chucking Royce in with the crocks for some good old wrestling? i bet it was tempting :) hehe royce....

  4. That is so cool! It sounds like it was a lot of fun. I wish I could have been there to see the crocs.

  5. Marryn and Michelle, wish you both had been there with us for the Croc excitement! Got the ole adrenaline running but poor Royce had nightmares for several night afterwards......about how the croc pulled him right off the bridge!
